Project Overview
An artistic live session film capturing The Publics performing 'Always' at The HopBarn, Southwell. Produced by Electric Bear on behalf of the AMPLIFY programme, funded by Arts Council England, the session was created to support original music and emerging artists across Nottinghamshire. The Publics are a Mansfield indie rock band known for anthemic choruses and a high-energy live show, and the brief was to translate that presence into a piece of visual craft rather than a straightforward performance capture.
Cinematography & Techniques
Shot on a two-camera setup, combining wide framing that places the full band within the character of the venue with closer coverage of individual performances. Camera movement and composition were used to carry the drive of the track, with The HopBarn's natural texture and lighting shaping the overall look of the session. I directed, shot, graded and edited the film, taking the session from the floor through to final delivery.
Visual Storytelling
The edit follows the build of the track, moving between wide and close coverage as the song opens out. Pacing was shaped around the band's dynamics, holding on individual performances where the moment called for it and pulling back to the room as the chorus lands. Audio was recorded, mixed and mastered to studio standard by Electric Bear and synced to picture, so the session sounds as considered as it looks.
The Final Result
A polished live session film that captures The Publics' energy with a distinct visual identity, delivered as part of the AMPLIFY programme. The finished piece works as both an artist asset and a showcase of what a properly produced live session can be — professionally shot, professionally recorded, and released to a standard that stands up alongside commercial music content.
